Is this going to be one of the sites that gets shuttered? Apologies, if this has already been covered elsewhere...

No. King George will protect us.

I thought this was just kinja.

Yes, the Oppositelock.kinja domain will be shut down. However we have worked out a deal with the friendly folks over at VWvortex to...
Sorry, couldn’t help myself, we’re not going anywhere.

Cool. Does that also go for Photography, as well? I know there’s a few photo-related subs on the system (Photography, Dodge & Burn, Re/Frame) so not sure which ones will survive..

I’ll look into that for you.

Cool, thanks! I’d hate to lose my place to put up my “dig me” postings. :D

I’m pretty sure that this only affects Gawker Media’s own blogs, since they’re trying to re-orient their own content - of all the Jalopnik properties, Flight Club is getting the axe. Since we’re technically an officially separate entity from Jalopnik now, we’re just another blog that has a bunch of Kinja users screwing around - even if we were still associated with the main blog, I doubt that they’d go so far as to kill off hangouts for loyal readers.

They’re not cutting amateur subblogs AFAIK, at least not yet.

Since the Great Reckoning I think Oppo and Gawker Medias ties are nearly entirely dissolved (some crossposting to Jalopnik and Jalopnik writers dropping in here) So I don’t think they have the authority to shut oppo down, unless they just want to shut down reader run blogs... which would be a complete clusterfuck by Gawker resulting in other readers leaving in mass.
So Oppo will likely be shut down in Spring ‘16.

what’s the legality of starting a kitchenette.kinja blog? I feel that would be a way to ‘inherit’ a lot of readers.

I believe that Kitchenette is going to be taken over by Wonkette (which, I believe, used to be a politics blog that was part of Gawker, ironically...)

The Jalopnik staff has said thatvthere are no plans to shut down Oppo and that they’ll fight tooth and nail for us if anyone tries.

I think the word you seek is “sunsetting” “shuttered is so 2015.

Well, to be fair, the original post was written in 2015...

I’m totally ribbing you. I just went down a rabbit hole. Gawker equals ADHD afflicted folk looking for that guffaw. I get the biggest kick out of some commenters and when I try to tell non kinja kommentars they’re all, “mmmmhm, that’s nice.” Gawker media has taught me that the comments can be better than the story. Preaching to the choir Iknow...
